West Magnolia Clean Up a Success

Twenty-five Nederland locals teamed up with the Nederland Area Trails Organization (NATO) to clean up five truckloads of trash and camping debris from the popular West Magnolia recreation area.

The two main focus areas were near a seasonal stream and a high-elevation meadow where squatters left behind two enormous piles of trash, broken camping items, and personal possessions. Additional effort was given to the numbered car-camping areas, which have been neglected throughout the high-traffic summer season.

Beyond the unsightly visual impact of trash in the forest, wildlife had been seen rummaging through the debris.

NATO Vice President Russell Eich said, “We’re super pleased – we made a big contribution towards the health and beauty of our backyard. A huge thanks to everyone who joined in.”

The clean-up was coordinated by the Nederland Area Trails Organization. The mission of NATO is to support, sustain and improve the trails around Nederland, Colorado. NATO fosters learning, hands-on experience and cooperation among all user groups, as well as public land managers and private land owners, to create a safe, fulfilling, and emotionally enriching environment for appreciating our local trails and forests.

Awesome fall day in West Mag. About 25 people showed up, we pulled out about 3 full truck loads in 4 hours of work. Thanks to everyone who came out and helped!!!
