Muddy Trails

Boulder County Trail Closures

It’s that time of year where we’re all itching to get out on the trails. For many of us up here in the Ned area, that may mean heading down the hill in search of less snowy options. Here’s the latest from Boulder County Open Space regarding trail closures in the area:

Boulder County, Colo. – Several open space properties have active or planned trail closures due to wildlife protection, restoration work, or muddy trails. Please honor these important closures.

  • Caribou Ranch
SEASONAL WILDLIFE CLOSURE: The entire property is closed to protect spring migratory birds and elk calving and rearing. The park will reopen on July 1. boco.org/caribou
  • Twin Lakes
RESTORATION CLOSURE: A portion of the west lake trail and access points from the south will be closed for up to three weeks beginning April 27 for emergency bank stabilization (see access map at boco.org/TwinLakes).
  • Heil Valley Ranch
RESTORATION CLOSURE: The following trails are closed through Sept. 30 for wildfire restoration work and public safety concerns: Schoolhouse Loop, Overland Loop, Grindstone Quarry Trail, Lichen Loop, Wapiti Trail. boco.org/HeilFireRecovery
MUDDY TRAILS CLOSURE: The following trails are currently closed until conditions improve, Picture Rock trail, Wild Turkey Trail, Ponderosa Loop. boco.org/heil
  • Hall Ranch
MUDDY TRAILS CLOSURE: The following trails are currently closed until conditions improve, Antelope Trail, Nelson Loop, Nighthawk Trail. boco.org/hall

Plan accordingly.

And remember, if you are out on muddy trails, get muddy. Going around muddy areas only widens the trails, which is bad. There, we said it.

If you see trails in the Nederland area that are in need of attention, let us know.
